St. Apostle Paul

Oil on zinc plate, 80,5x71,5cm. St. Barbara chapel in Markučiai
St. Paul’s icon is one out of seven discovered façade decoration icons, in total there were 9 of them. All of them painted on zinc plate support, which is a very specific technique and rarely discovered in Lithuania. Icons found deformed, the paint layer suffered from corrosion and mechanical damages. Pictures in raking light clearly show the deformations of support plate and paint layer, infrared photograph reveals slightly better visible composition details. All seven icons have been exhibited in the Church Heritage museum after restoration in 2019.
